It’s a little known secret that us therapists love books just as much as our families. Not only are they a fantastic way to support speech and language development, they are also fun! Below is a list of books we are loving at the moment.
The Pigeon Books by Mo Willems
These books are very funny. They feature the main character, Pigeon, trying to convince the reader to do what he wants (like drive the bus), but don’t let him! ‘The Pigeon HAS to Go to School!’ is also a great school readiness story.
The ABC Book of…. by Helen Martin
These books cover a LOT of different themes – from dinosaurs to outer space to feelings to how honey is made. There is always something new to point out and talk about and for this reason they are great for building vocabulary. The books also do not follow a particular story line, which means you can make your own!
Who Sank The Boat? by Pamela Allen
An oldie but a goodie – follow along to see who sank the boat and the answer may surprise you! Great for sequencing, recalling events, and predicting outcomes.
